Practice Pieces

I practice my stitches on felt squares.
I attach little notes to the felt with the stitch name
and also what page/book the stitch directions are located in.
All the above stitches are from Nancy Eha's book.

The directions for this gecko came from the tub of Pony Beads that I have on hand for my grandchildren.  Gecko on left is made from Seed Beads.  On right, made from "E" beads.
The directions for the flowers are found in the instructions for Emily Hackbarth's Mandala Stitch.

My "Wrapped Rock" started out as the Madala Stitch, see below.

Wrapped Rock - in progress
Wrap a Rock?  Why Not!  It's better than doing dishes!
Well, it's a stone, actually.  Just about the size of an egg. In fact, I got it out of my backyard, it's called "egg rock".  I ran across a pattern for a Wrapped Rock in about.com.  It used the Flat Round Peyote Stitch, but when I was making a practice piece of the Mandala Stitch (see above), I laid it on the stone and I liked what I saw.  Have to make the underneath half, then connect it and I will have a paperweight.
Wrap a Rock? Yes, indeed!
